Apple Pie Sensory Play

Gina

Materials:

  • Dry sensory base (uncooked pasta, rice, chickpeas)

  • White vinegar

  • Apple pie spice

  • Ziploc bag or container with a lid

How To:

  1. Pour your dry sensory base into a ziploc bag or bowl with a lid. Here we used tiny pasta! For every 1 cup of dry sensory base, add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar and 1 tablespoon of apple pie spice.

  2. Shake well to assure it is all evenly coated. Spread out on a cookie sheet to dry, this typically takes under an hour. Stir halfway through to help it all dry evenly.

  3. Transfer your sensory base (which now smells amazinggggg) into a sensory tray or shallow bowl. Add your favorite fall trinkets, letters, numbers or just simply spoons & bowls and scoop away!

  4. Store in an airtight container when not in use for up to 6 months.

The benefits of sensory play are truly endless. While they scoop & pour & squish, they are strengthening fine motor skills, increasing language & vocabulary & being provided with opportunities to learn & grow & create. This apple pie sensory base allows for an added benefit of smell & it is calming & warm & sure to elicit so much creativity!
